A man infected with COVID-19 has died in Taungdwingyi, Magway Region, according to a release by the local aid group M Rescue Magway.
The deceased, identified as 31-year-old Ko Bo Bo Win from Shwe Oh Ward 1 in Taungdwingyi, was carefully wrapped and transported via Magway People’s Hospital to the Chan Myae Thar Yar Cemetery for burial, the group reported.
Between June 8 and 15, health authorities tested 2,285 suspected cases, confirming 52 infections—a positivity rate of 2.28%, as announced by the Ministry of Health.
Mon State recorded the highest number of cases (24), followed by Yangon Region (17). Other regions reported fewer infections: Magway (7), Mandalay (2), and one each in Nay Pyi Taw and Shan State.
In the preceding week (June 1–8), tests conducted on 2,154 suspected cases yielded 31 infections (1.44% positivity), with no fatalities. Earlier, from May 25 to June 1, 17 cases were detected—all in Yangon Region townships.
The latest figures indicate a significant rise in infections compared to recent weeks.
The Health Ministry noted that COVID-19 has transitioned from pandemic spread to localized endemic transmission.
