Over 5,000 corruption complaints filed in four years, billions recovered: Anti-Corruption Commission

According to a statement from the Anti-Corruption Commission, there have been over 5,000 corruption complaints filed to the commission in the four years since the political changes.

The Anti-Corruption Commission’s announcement revealed that in 2021, the year of the political transition, there were 1,334 complaints, followed by 1,426 in 2022, 1,217 in 2023, and 1,225 in 2024, bringing the total number of complaints over the four years to 5,202.

Of the 1,225 complaints filed in 2024, the Anti-Corruption Commission stated that it was able to take action on 814 cases.

Among the remaining 411 complaints, 44 are still under review, while 368 could not be pursued as they did not comply with the Anti-Corruption Law.

Additionally, there were 10 complaints transferred by the State Administration Council, Union Ministers, and Regional/State Governments, along with 1,052 complaints directly submitted to the commission.

Among the cases processed, action was taken against 67 individuals holding political positions, 23 high-ranking officials, 101 senior officers, 86 junior officers, 18 public servants, and 53 other individuals under the Anti-Corruption Law. Meanwhile, 303 civil servants were disciplined under the Civil Service Law.

The commission also reported the recovery and return of over 27.33 billion kyats in public funds, as well as the prevention of losses exceeding 156 billion kyats.
